Summary
- "Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer crushes hopes of seeing favorite characters like Amy and Rouge in the upcoming film."
- "Exciting first look at Shadow the Hedgehog as the main villain in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 leaves fans eager for more."
- "Potential for Amy and Rouge to be saved for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, with a post-credits scene hinting at their future."
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 looks exciting, but the trailer has crushed my hopes of these video game characters appearing. After the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 post-credits scene revealed that Shadow the Hedgehog would be appearing in the next film, I knew that the sky was the limit, with there being all kinds of possibilities for other franchise characters to appear in the third live-action movie. I had been specifically crossing my fingers that two of my favorite Sonic the Hedgehog characters would appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but the first trailer has seemingly deconfirmed this.
The first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is out now, and it gives a first look at the incredibly exciting third movie in the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie series. Alongside Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, the movie gives a first look at Keanu Reeves' Shadow the Hedgehog, setting him up as the main villain of the upcoming film. I am incredibly excited to finally see Shadow in action after years of waiting, and the debut of Maria and Jim Carrey's Gerald Robotnik is just the cherry on top. However, it is doubtful that I'll get to see two other characters that I love.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3's Trailer Proves The Movie Is Too Crowded For Amy Or Rogue To Appear
With Shadow, Gerald, & Maria Being Introduced
Ever since the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie, I have always wanted to see Amy Rose and Rouge the Bat in one of these live-action films. However, I'm starting to believe that the movie is too crowded based on the first Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer. The movie seems to be going all-in on telling Shadow's origin story, and as a big fan of the Sonic Adventure games, I am incredibly excited about this. However, since the trailer has proven that a lot will be going on in the upcoming film, there is almost no room for Amy or Rouge.
Of the two, Rouge has the better chance of appearing, as her character is more directly tied to Shadow's origin story. However, it would be very difficult to find a way to fit Amy into Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is disappointing considering her impact on the franchise. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has to now tell the story of four main characters from the video games as well as the movie series' live-action characters, and with how busy the trailer makes the third film look, I just can't see how they would fit Amy or Rose into this movie.

Amy & Rouge Are Better Suited To Be Saved For Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Now
& Sonic 3 Can Set Them Up
Rather than trying to cram Amy and Rouge into Sonic the Hedgehog 3, I think that it would be better for the movie series to save them for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Neither of the characters could get the screen time that they deserve, with the addition of Keanu Reeves' Shadow the Hedgehog undoubtedly overshadowing them if they do make a surprise appearance. Because of this, I think that the better option is to save these characters for future movies, only using them after the epic Shadow saga has been concluded.
Amy could easily be a big enough draw for a fourth movie, being to Sonic the Hedgehog 4 what Knuckles was to the second movie, and what Shadow is to the third one. While Rouge isn't as well-known of a character as Amy, she would be the perfect way for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 to continue telling the Sonic Adventure stories, with her potentially being part of a B-story with Shadow. It is best for the Sonic the Hedgehog movies to give its new characters some breathing room, which is why I unfortunately think that saving Amy and Rouge is the best option.

How Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Can Still Setup Amy & Rouge's Franchise Future
One Can Appear In The Post-Credits Scene
Although Amy and Rouge may not be a big part of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the third movie can still set up Amy and Rouge's future in the movie series. Sonic the Hedgehog introduced Tails in a post-credits scene, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 introduced Shadow in its post-credits scene. If Sonic the Hedgehog 3 wants to continue this trend, I could totally see Amy appearing in the post-credits scene, setting up her story for Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 seems to be giving a larger focus to GUN, an organization that recruits Rouge the Bat in various Sonic the Hedgehog stories. Her association with GUN and Project Shadow would perfectly pave the way for her to appear in a future project, which is why she may be important for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 even if she doesn't appear in it.
