An outspoken Republican congressional candidate was hospitalized just hours after announcing her campaign.

Mayra Flores, 39, a former congresswoman from Texas, announced her candidacy for the 2026 election on Tuesday.

'I am deeply honored to announce my candidacy for Congress—a chance to serve the people and uphold the values that make our nation great,' she posted on X.

'This campaign is driven by a love for our country and a commitment to fight for justice, opportunity, and unity for all.'

Then just hours later her team shared a more dire message.

'Former and future Congresswoman Mayra Flores, a devoted conservative fighting corruption in Texas's 28th District, has been hospitalized,' a post on her X signed 'Team Mayra,' shockingly stated.

'During this challenging time, we humbly ask for your prayers and support. We pray that Mayra will return stronger than ever, ready to continue her unwavering commitment to serving our country.'

'Mayra's passion for building a brighter future for our children, grandchildren, and generations to come is at the heart of everything she does. Guided by faith and determination, she remains steadfast in her mission during this critical moment.'

The former representative won a special election in 2022 and served just several months before losing to Texas Democrat Rep. Vicente Gonzalez. She is famous for carrying guns in her campaign ads and backing Trump's immigration agenda.

Flores is the first Mexican-born American to serve in Congress and has her eyes set on reclaiming a seat long-held by Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar.

Cuellar is facing criminal charges related to allegations that he and his wife accepted $600,000 in bribes from entities in Azerbaijan and Mexico.

The shocking announcement of her hospitalization led her supporters to post messages of support as they wondered what could have happened.

'Sending prayers for strength and comfort to Mayra and her family,' Iowa Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson posted on X.

'Get well soon,' other posts online said.

Flores' campaign staff eventually posted an update late Tuesday evening that the Republican was released from the hospital.

'Earlier today, Mayra Flores faced a sudden health scare, but thanks to the incredible care she received and the support of her loved ones, she is now fully recovering and feeling stronger than ever,' the campaign statement said.

'While she is taking time to recover, her passion for serving TX-28 has not slowed down one bit,' the statement continued.

'Mayra will be back on the campaign trail soon—stronger than ever and ready to fight for the people of South Texas.'

On Wednesday Flores began responding to well wishes on X thanking supporters for their prayers.

'Thank you so much, Amiga,' Flores responded to Hinson.

'I’m now home feeling so much better.'
