Mott MacDonald is currently seeking a strategic, inspirational, and experienced Transportation Market Lead interested in leading the development and growth of the transport business in the Inland Empire. Your leadership style is one that inspires excellence and innovation for growth.

This role is critical for achieving Mott MacDonald’s strategic growth ambitions in the transportation market, building client centric experiences, and delivering outstanding projects across a variety of multi-modal transportation assignments including highways, transportation planning, ports, aviation, and active transportation infrastructure.

Reporting to the California Strategy Lead and collaborating with the Resource Manager, you will be leading the Inland Empire market development, including assessing market revenue opportunities, the creation and implementation of a development strategy. Additionally, you’ll direct client and agency engagement, through various stages of transport infrastructure projects, ensuring profitable and sustainable growth. Additional internal key stakeholder collaborations will include Portfolio Manager, Business Development Manager, Group Leads, Pursuit Managers, and Team Leads.

To be successful in the role, you will leverage your 10+ years of industry experience and in-depth knowledge of the local market. Due to your relationships and knowledge of the region, you will be instrumental in developing strategies and contribute to CAPTURE plans for sustainable and profitable growth. Your success will be reflected in the growth of our pipeline, development of new clients and expansion of existing clients.

As the Transportation Market Lead for the Inland Empire, you will:

  • Lead the Inland Empire market development to establish Mott MacDonald as the

trusted partner of choice for clients in the market.

  • Establish Mott MacDonald as the trusted partner of choice for clients in the Sector.
  • Build senior level networks with existing clients, partners, elected officials, cities & municipalities.
  • Establish and drive the market’s growth strategy by effectively assessing the market opportunities and creating the plan to deliver on those growth opportunities.
  • Develop new and manage existing, key client relationships within the overall Transportation industry and interfacing on relevant proposals and projects.
  • Identify opportunities, turning them into prospects and converting the prospects into projects.
  • Closely collaborate with Divisional leadership and Office Leadership to maintain strong focus and ensure we deliver against business plans and strategies.
  • Detect key themes and trends in the marketplace, communicate them effectively across the business and drive appropriate action.
  • Provide support in preparing the annual business plan and strategies.
  • An ability to connect market trends, opportunities, and drive the capture process of a pursuit from lead to win.
  • In partnership with the Division and Unit General Managers, provide input around the prioritization on the investments within the market, including acquisitions, staff bulk hires, market entries and exits etc. at the strategic level.
  • Grow external relationships, building and maintaining strong networks with key clients, elected officials, agencies, business partners and competitors.
  • Be a role model and ambassador for Mott MacDonald, articulating and representing the brand, vision, and value proposition internally and externally.

What you bring:

  • A strong academic background, with a bachelor’s level degree and ideally also a master’s degree + a minimum 10 years of relevant industry / project experience.
  • Demonstrated successes for creating strategic business development plans that have resulted in expanding or landing client business.
  • Existing strong relationships with agencies, cities, counties, MPOs, county board supervisors, elected officials within the Inland Empire region.
  • Prior experience in a team role, demonstrating people related responsibilities and increasing levels of responsibilities over time.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; able to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff, partners and clients, in complex matrixed teams.
  • Strong technical skills associated with pursuing new clients, projects, and sectors.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the application of digital tools and technology to develop innovative business solutions.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $180,000
